What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a form of traditional, holistic treatment that utilises natural medicine and a range of techniques depending on your individual needs. Naturopathy is an effective way to promote health and wellbeing without the use of conventional medicines.

Naturopathic treatments often consist of dietary advice, lifestyle changes, herbal medicine, nutritional supplements and other natural remedies. At the Health and Healing Wellness Centre, we offer naturopathic consultations to help discuss health concerns and find the underlying cause by looking into lifestyle, family history, diet and stress.

Our experienced team of naturopaths are committed to providing a personal, tailored, holistic naturopathic treatment, using the latest proven natural therapies.

What is Naturopathy

My name is Tina White and I’m a qualified professional naturopath, herbalist, acupuncturist, biometatherapy, masseuse, and it goes on. Natural therapies is a very beautiful way of looking at people holistically where we look at everything to the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual bodies. We try to encourage from each person harmony between those bodies.

Naturopaths will commonly look at you, look at your physical structure, understand function comes from physical structure. And when we come to nutrition, we look at what we’re eating, how that's affecting you. Are you eating a balanced diet? A lot of people don’t realise you can eat a lot of good food, but it doesn’t mean you’ve actually digested it into a nutrient. Those nutrients have to be in the blood and from the blood they have to go into the tissues. A lot of people don’t understand today, particularly we’ve got things that can interfere with that. So a naturopath’s job is to try to identify how you are today, where you’ve come from and where you need to go based on the conditions and symptoms you’re presenting with or pathologies accordingly.

I’ve been in practice for nearly 50 years, and it’s certainly changed with our modern times. Unfortunately, we have a lot of toxicity in our air, water, and foods, and people will present commonly with low energy or brain fog or digestive disturbances. And your food has to be balanced. You have to be able to digest it. You have to get the nutrients from that. And today, particularly, as I said, the toxins have a huge impact on our health and they can block your nutrients going from your blood into your tissues.

When you come to see a qualified practitioner, they’re really looking at you in a holistic way. And there are a lot of things you won’t be aware of that can be influencing your health. And so in treating someone that I might look at how their pH is, I might look at what they’re eating, look at their toxicity factors. Is the reproduction system in order? Are their adrenal glands in order? These things influence all interlinks. So just taking something like a symptomatic treatment is great, but it’s not always going to be effective. So understanding why things are out of balance, what can you do or what do we do to support that person to help them get balance and harmony again.

We’re quite remarkable in our bodies, they’re very remarkable at healing itself, but it still has to have those raw materials and that the function is working. So without all the balancing of your whole body, symptomatic treatment can be effective, but if something keeps coming back, you’ve got to say why, and what am I not seeing or doing that needs to be corrected if it can be. People come in here and they’re to symptomatic treatment. And that’s sometimes very effective. But today you’re to realise that what suits you doesn’t suit another and something could be missing. Seeing a qualified practitioner allows them to really identify those factors and make it openly clear to you so you can make a conscious decision how you want to act with that. So that’s the purpose of having an individualised approach to your health and wellbeing.
