There are 4 blood groups, A, B, AB and O. Knowing your blood type is important if you require a blood transfusion, are undergoing surgery or are pregnant. If you are going to donate your blood you will also need to know your blood type.

Your blood type depends on antigens which occur on the surface of your red blood cells. These A or B antigens, plus a presence of (positive) or absence of (negative) the rhesus antigen will determine your blood type. Your group will be classified as one of the following.
- A+
- A-
- B+
- B-
- AB+
- AB-
- O+
- O-
How to find out your blood type?
A sample of your blood will be taken and mixed with a selection of plasma portions containing specific antibodies, such as anti-B antibodies or rhesus antibodies. By recording how your blood reacts to these antibodies we can work out your blood type.
Knowing your blood type can also help our naturopaths determine your risks of certain diseases, illnesses and toxins.
