Causes of sleep problems
There are a great number of medical, physical, emotional, psychological, and neurological conditions that can affect the quality of sleep. Depression, either concurrent or in the past, is a common factor that is likely to cause or exacerbate sleep problems. Anxiety and stress can often keep us up at night, which may become a problem if insomnia does not resolve and begins to affect other areas of life.
By improving the quality of sleep, the mind and body are more rested and better equipped to deal with an inevitably hectic schedule and unplanned stressful events.
Natural sleep remedies
There are many things you can do tonight to help get a good night’s sleep:
- reduce your caffeine intake - that includes coffee, black and green tea, cola and energy drinks.
- exercise early in the day
- reduce your alcohol intake
- do something relaxing at the end of your day, unwind.
- stay away from your phone, tablet or computer before bed (at least an hour before)
- meditate
- place some lavender oil on a hanky near your pillow.
Most of all relax, stressing about not getting to sleep or waking too soon just adds to the problem.
